<\/p>\nA group of researchers at the UC Davis and other institutes of repute have showcased the importance of folic acids.<\/p>\n

The researcher’s highlight taking recommended amounts of folic acids around contraceptive periods helps mothers reduce the risk of pesticide-related autism.<\/p>\n

The study observed children whose mothers were administered above 800 micrograms of folic acids had lowered risks of their offspring developing autism.<\/p>\n
Rebecca Schmidt, author and assistant professor of the department of public health science says, “During the course of research we observed if mothers were ingesting folic acids during their contraceptive periods, the increased risks that are seen to have an association with pesticides are seen to be thin.”<\/p>\n
However, says the author, “Mothers should be cautious and exercise possible means to avoid pesticides. Nevertheless, if they live in a place that is closer to agricultural lands where chances of pesticides blowing in are higher, this could potentially be the right way in countering the effects.”<\/p>\n
Researchers looked the earlier data of 296 autistic children and analyzed another group of autistic children who were typically autistic.<\/p>\n
Young mothers were interviewed in great detail and answers regarding their household-pesticide exposure were closely monitored. Further, their vitamin B and folic acid intakes were also taken into account.<\/p>\n
Further, the team also had the data linked to California Pesticide Usage reports, which aims at providing important details regarding agricultural sprays, along with mother\u2019s addresses.<\/p>\n
Mothers who were seen to have consumed lesser than 800 micrograms of folic acids and being exposed to household-pesticides were at a greater risk of their offspring being diagnosed with autism.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, mothers who were seen to have an exposure to agricultural pesticides with lower folic acids intake during and prior to 3 months of contraception were also at a higher risk.<\/p>\n
Schmidt, a faculty member at the UC Davis says, “Mothers who had a continual exposure to pesticides were at a greater risk of their children being diagnosed with autism.”<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, it should be noted that while folic acids reduced risks associated with autism, it does not completely eliminate the risk.<\/p>\n
Schmidt signed off saying, “It is always advisable for pregnant women to avoid having an exposure to chronic pesticides.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
